How we work with you...

Some methods of therapy commonly used in our practice include Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing ("EMDR"), cognitive-behavioral therapy, insight-oriented therapies, and solution-focused therapy. This can be done in individual therapy as well as with couples. Many teens also benefit from the some of the same methods, but it may be that a more comprehensive family therapy approach is most helpful. Often for children in treatment, the involvement with parents can provide support in implement positive parenting strategies.

Treatment methods will depend upon your therapist's theoretical approach and also the concerns you wish to address in your work.
We will meet with you during your initial appointment to discuss your concerns and explore treatment methods which may be most helpful for your situation.

Improve Communication/Feel More Connected/Create Shared Goals/Heal From Infidelity/Learn to Argue Effectively/Love Each Other More Deeply

As with individuals, we encourage all couples considering therapy to come in for a first session to assess together whether we would be a good fit for each other. Contact us via email or phone and lets get you feeling a lot better shortly thereafter. Common couples issues include
:

  • Communication
  • Life Changes - relocation, move, baby, death of a friend/family member
  • Financial Issues
  • Sex and Intimacy
  • Decision-making difficulties
  • Anger and resentment
  • Parenting concerns
  • Extended family conflicts

Couples come to us for many different reasons - to work through a difficult time, to learn better communication, to prepare for a long-term committed relationship or marriage, or sometimes even to consider whether they should stay together or separate.  We work with couples in a way that considers each individual as well as the process that happens between them.  We work to address practical issues and concerns, as well as deeper issues like intimacy and past wounds. Your couple's therapy will likely begin with an initial intake session with both partners present. It may be that an individual for each partner will be requested after that so we can develop a good understanding of each of you individually and as a couple before moving into therapy sessions.

Family Therapy

Get Along Better/Understand Each Other/Live in Harmony/Communicate Clearly

Family therapy can be useful in helping to improve communication, understanding, and relationships among family members. If you are interested in family therapy, please let us know when you call. We will meet with you during your initial appointment to discuss your concerns and explore treatment options most helpful for your situation. Parents will attend the first appointment to provide background information prior to the first family session.

We use various types of family therapy approaches. We may meet with all members of the family, or a smaller subgroup within the family, such as siblings, parents, or parent and child.
